AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a soggy Tuesday morning, the organizers of Trail of Lights and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department decided to not open Trail of Lights Tuesday evening.

The organization says Zilker Park is currently saturated from all the rain. According to the KXAN First Warning Weather Team, approximately 1.6 inches of rain has fallen in the Austin metro area since midnight.

“In order to protect the community’s park land and the safety of event goers, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department closed Zilker Park today,” event organizers said. This is third night event organizers have had to cancel in the past four days due to bad weather.

Event organizers will continue to work to mitigate standing water, and re-open the Trail with a safe and quality experience.

Ticket buyers who purchased shuttle, GA and ZIP passes for Dec. 16, 17, or 19 may use those passes any open night of the Trail of Lights. Please present ticket at the appropriate entrance for entry at no extra cost. Platinum and Parking tickets must be exchanged to another evening pending availability. You may exchange passes by contacting ticketing@austintrailoflights.org. Ticketing agents are prioritizing emails regarding ticket exchanges to ensure guests can reschedule for alternate dates before they are sold out.

The event’s last day is on Dec. 23.
