SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — A popular band is planning a benefit concert for the family of the San Marcos police officer who was shot and killed earlier this month. Blue October will be taking the stage in San Marcos on Thursday.
The event is promoted as an extended acoustic set by the band. To put on a concert like this promoters say they usually like to have at least three months to prepare. But considering the circumstances, they are putting together a show in less than two weeks.
Within the first three days, they sold half the tickets. Event organizers say 100 percent of ticket sales and a large percentage of everything else sold will go directly to the family, Officer Copeland’s wife and his four children, a set of 13-year-old twins and a set of 10-year-old twins.
The owner of The Marc and Blue October both call San Marcos their home. They say when they heard of the shooting they knew immediately they wanted to do something to help the family.
“I couldn’t imagine what they are going through, it’s really tough, so this is something. It might not be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it’s something to take their mind off of such a tragedy and hopefully help them out in the future as well,” said The Marc Owner Omar Dawoud.
Tickets are on sale starting at $40, according to the website all VIP tables and the owner’s box is already sold out.
