RIO DE JANEIRO (KXAN) — Texas standout Byron Robinson placed third in his 400-meter hurdle heat finishing 12th overall with a time of 48.9 seconds—enough to automatically qualify him for the semifinals for the Rio Olympic Games. Robinson was the only collegiate runner to reach Olympic trial finals this summer, after claiming the event’s Big 12 title in 2016.

Robinson will compete in the 400-meter hurdle semifinals Tuesday night.

Round Rock resident and 2012 silver medalist, Michael Tinsley did not qualify in the event, finishing 36th overall with a time of 50.18 seconds.

Former Longhorn Ashley Spencer will conclude the Lone Star showing in women’s heats at 7:54 p.m. CST.
