AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police think speed and wet weather were factors in a deadly crash early Thursday morning in northeast Austin. According to police, two men were heading south in the 3300 block of Northeast Drive when their vehicle hit a pole just after midnight.

Austin-Travis County EMS says paramedics took one of the men to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries. The second man was pronounced dead after crews assessed his condition once he was taken out of the car. Austin police say the driver survived the crash.

The crash knocked out power to nearly 60 nearby homes. Austin Energy crews are working to restore power in the neighborhood.
