Moped driver killed in north Austin crash identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who died while riding a scooter has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher M. Peterson.

Austin police say the crash happened on Dec. 3 at 1:20 a.m. along North Lamar Boulevard just south of West Braker Lane. The initial information indicates Peterson was on his Vespa moped traveling southbound on North Lamar Boulevard when he crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit by a driver in a Toyota Corolla.

Peterson died at the scene.

This crash was Austin’s 65th fatal traffic crash and the 70th fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 71 fatal traffic crashes and 73 traffic fatalities.
