15-year-old boy killed running across I-35 identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The 15-year-old who was hit and killed while running across the southbound lanes of North Interstate 35 on Sunday has been identified.

Sajjad Zaid Alqassab, who would have turned 16 years old in two weeks, was running across the 1300 block of North I-35, near Parmer Lane, when he was hit by an SUV.

Austin police say the collision happened at 4:25 p.m. on Dec. 3. Alqassab was taken to Round Rock Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene following the crash.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8544.
