AUSTIN (KXAN) — A deadly motorcycle crash in north Austin has the northbound frontage of US 183 blocked.

Austin police say around 1:09 p.m. Monday, they received 911 calls reporting a driver in a car and a motorcyclist were racing along US 183 near North Lamar Boulevard. A short time later, another 911 call came in stating the motorcyclist crashed along the US 183 northbound frontage near Anderson Square.

When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist had driven off the road. Austin-Travis County EMS says a man in his 20s died at the scene. The driver in the car stayed at the scene. Detectives are trying to determine if the motorcyclist collided with the car or if he just lost control.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and expect delays. You can check out current backups and alternate routes on KXAN’s traffic page.
