WASHINGTON (KXAN/NBC) — It may have been four weeks since the Houston Astros’ win at the World Series, but some are still celebrating — including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.

Cruz and a senator from California, Kamala Harris, made a friendly wager on the outcome of the game, and on Wednesday Harris held up her end of the deal.

“This is a painful moment for me,” Harris said, laughing.

“Here I am, congratulations!” she said as she walked into his office wearing an Astros hat and shirt, a major departure from her LA Dodgers fandom. She also brought him two bottles of California wine and a box of candy made in the state.

Ahead of the series, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and California Gov. Jerry Brown also bet on the outcome. Abbott’s office confirmed he received two bottles of wine from regions in California affected by devastating wildfires. Abbott said before the outcome of the game that, win or lose, he would make a donation to the recovery and relief efforts there.

“On behalf of Governor Brown and the entire state of California we congratulate you on the Astros 2017 World Series victory,” a note with the wine said. “We stand with Gov. Abbott and the people of Texas as you continue to rebuild and recover from the storms.”

If Abbott (and the Astros) had lost, he would have had to send Brown some Houston-brewed beer and Texas barbecue.
