NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) — Northbound Interstate 35 in New Braunfels was closed for hours Tuesday evening following a fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler hauling large bales of cotton.

Part of southbound I-35 was briefly closed as well, creating a major traffic jam for Central Texas drivers. The crash happened in the Rueckle Road to Solms Road area — just southwest of town — according to New Braunfels police.

First responders and TxDOT crews worked to clear up the traffic as quickly as possible. “Please be patient and expect major delays,” police warned.

Police say there was only one, non-life threatening injury in the crash, which happened before 4 p.m.
