HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man who led numerous officers on a chase along Interstate 35 near San Marcos over the weekend was intoxicated, says a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS says on Saturday around 7:15 p.m. they received a 911 call about a truck traveling down the road with a flat tire and sparks coming from the vehicle. A trooper managed to catch up to the truck and tried to stop the driver, identified as Kyle Habich, 60, but he proceeded to lead the trooper on a chase.

Over the next 5 minutes, Hays County Sheriff’s Office deputies joined in on the chase headed southbound on the freeway. KXAN viewers sent in videos of the chase showing the sparks emanating from the truck.

Authorities say Habich finally came to a stop north of the Blanco River. Habich was booked into the Hays County Jail and currently faces one count of DWI and one count of evading arrest.
