Car slams into tree killing three in Bastrop County

SMITHVILLE, Texas (KXAN) – A man and two women are dead in Bastrop County after the car they were in hit a tree Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Farm to Market 2104 and Coyote Trail. Texas Department of Public Safety investigators say John Rosales, 60, of Smithville was driving northbound in a 2009 Pontiac G6 when he suddenly veered into the southbound lane. The car then hit a barbed wire fence before running into a tree.

The driver, along with his two passengers, Mage Rosales, 60, and Bernice Rivera, 52, all died at the scene. Authorities say both Rosales’ were wearing seatbelts.

A male and female in the front seat were wearing seatbelts. A female in the backseat did not have a seatbelt. Authorities on scene did not divulge who was driving.
