AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly shooting his friend during a birthday celebration at a South Austin apartment complex.

Austin police say they were called to the Austin City Lights complex, located at 501 E. Stassney Lane, at 1:11 a.m. Monday. Officers found Aaron P. Moore, 24, with a gunshot wound. Police immediately began CPR and continued until EMS took over. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives determined Moore and Fischer Hoisington, 24, were celebrating their shared birthday when the two men began handling a loaded firearm believed to belong to Moore. Police say at some point Hoisington held the gun and shot it towards Moore, striking him in the chest. Hoisington has been charged with manslaughter, a second degree felony.

Detectives ask anyone with information on the shooting to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.

This case is one of several deaths Austin police responded to over the weekend. On Friday afternoon, a man was found dead in a field at the southwest corner of West Howard Lane and Metric Boulevard in north Austin. On Saturday morning, officers found the bodies of a man and woman inside a home in the 7700 block of Whitsun Drive.
