Spend Local, Shop Zero this Holiday Season

Austin Resource Recovery

Natalie Betts of Austin Resource Recovery stopped in and showed us some great and unique ideas to use during this season of giving. Give something a little different this holiday season that also gives back. The City of Austin is encouraging Austinites to shop in support of Zero Waste. This year, switch up your holiday shopping routines to support local and eco-friendly businesses. The Spend Local, Shop Zero campaign encourages residents to reduce waste by shopping at local businesses that offer repair or rental services, or sell recycled, upcycled, or reused items. Instead of shopping for another name brand gift that will probably end up in the back of the closet, shop for unique gifts from Austin-owned vendors. From toy-lending to bike repair to vintage clothing and more, shoppers can search for businesses like these in the Shop Zero Waste directory found on the LocallyAustin website. Instead of buying brand new, shop Zero Waste and help benefit our local economy and keep products out of landfills, all while still knocking out your holiday shopping list. There are so many options for gift-giving outside the box of buying brand new. Find yourself in need of some gift-spiration? Visit LocallyAustin.org or http://austintexas.gov/shopzero for creative and unique gift ideas for everyone on your list this holiday season that no one else could give.
