AISD honoring first African-American teacher

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A local school is honoring their first African-American teacher.

Austin ISD tweeted they are proud to celebrate the beloved elementary teacher Bettie Mann. Last night, AISD made it official paying tribute to the teacher at a Board of Trustees meeting.

Mann taught at Russell Lee Elementary School for 37 years. At the ceremony it was announced a wing of the school will now be the Bettie Mann Kindergarten wing. A plaque will now hang at the school.
