AUSTIN (KXAN) — You can now add driver to the list of volunteer work for actor Matthew McConaughey.

He surprised a group of University of Texas students getting a ride from the school’s SURE Walk program. The program gives students free rides around and off campus every day from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The actor and UT graduate often stops by his Alma mater. In June there were rumor he would be teaching a film class at UT. While he is not officially Professor McConaughey, he did offer students a unique learning experience giving insight into his movie The Free State of Jones before it premiered.

McConaughey has won Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, as well as several other awards.

If you are a student you can request a SURE Walk ride by calling 512-232-9255 or meet them at the Jester West first floor.

Last week alongside Governor Greg Abbott, McConaughey helped deliver Thanksgiving to hundreds of families in Austin with Meals on Wheels. He also brought his family so they could share their holiday and a warm meal.

“They don’t know who I am, they don’t know that I’m in movies or anything, I introduce myself as Matthew and they go “hi” and they are happy that somebody would just take the time out on Thanksgiving to come by bring the meal,” said McConaughey. “That’s what they’re happiest about.”
