AUSTIN (KXAN) — Now that people have saved money from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the nation is encouraged to give back for Giving Tuesday.

After a long holiday weekend of shopping, Giving Tuesday is a day Americans are urged to volunteer or make donations to charity. The one-day charitable giving promotion launched in 2012. Most charities generate a vast majority of their contributions at the end of the year, so Giving Tuesday has opened the door to a more organized effort.

You can participate by donating to a charity or volunteering. One of the foundations hoping to raise money is the Miracle Foundation; the founder Caroline Boudreaux joined us in the KXAN studio.

Donors can choose from several gift options which are tax-deductible:

  • $135 gives a Water Purifier to a home for 50 orphan children
  • $87 gives Immunizations to 15 children for an entire year
  • $42 covers all healthcare for a child for an entire year
  • $19 covers quarterly health check-ups for a child for an entire year provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
