AUSTIN (KXAN) — With final exams around the corner at UT, there’s another place for students to unwind on campus.

It’s called the MindBody Lab. The grand opening was Monday at the Student Activity Center, one of the most popular places on campus. This is the second MindBody Lab on campus; the other one is located in the Student Services Building.

There are guided exercises on muscle relaxation, meditation, sleep issues, and food and body image. A recent report from the American College Health Association finds a quarter of students said anxiety hurt their student performance.

“This idea of mental health has been stigmatized, it’s taboo, especially among college students,” said Student Body President Kevin Helgren. “The idea behind MindBody Lab is to normalize the conversation and give students another source to navigate the mental health landscape that comes in college.”

The lab is open seven days a week. For examples of the exercises, visit UT’s website here. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
