We checked out a tasty hot spot in the Austin dining scene – Fukumoto. It’s a Japanese restaurant that was started by Kazu Fukumoto, a sushi chef of 16 years. He wanted to bring traditional Japanese food to Austin, and they specialize in yakitori and sushi. Yakitori izakaya is a more comfortable way to enjoy food in smaller portions served over several courses. We tried the salmon yakitori and it was awesome! It’s marinated in sake kasu and miso for 48 hours, then grilled and glazed with sauce. There’s also a lot of love in the restaurant with part of it built by Kazu’s father, and chairs for the sushi bar from his mentor. In addition to the tasty food, there are many types of sake and beer to enjoy. Fukumoto can be found at 514 Medina Street. Check them out at fukumotoaustin.com or call 512-770-6880.
