Over 50 people treated for K2 cases over the weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin/Travis County EMS has treated over 50 people for K2 incidents since Friday.

On Sunday, ATCEMS treated a total of 17 patients. ATCEMS says they also transported 11 people on Saturday.

The outbreak started on Friday afternoon where medics responded to 14 K2 incidents on 6th Street and Neches Street. Another 12 people were transported into area hospitals overnight.

In August, a new batch of K2 circulated in downtown Austin, leading up to 69 people being treated for the synthetic drug. Police arrested Charles Herd, 56, and his wife Juanita Price, 41 for supplying the bulk of K2 that led to multiple overdoses at the time.

ATCEMS says they will continue to monitor the situation.
