SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — With Black Friday over, people all around Austin are heading out the door to shop locally on Small Business Saturday.
Wimberely Glassworks in San Marcos is privately owned and staffed with just 14 employees. They’re joining other businesses in the city this year for the second time, promoting the local economy during Shop Small Saturday.
“People in Texas will go out of their way to support things that are made in the state,” owner Tim De Jong said.
In San Marcos, Small Business Saturday is celebrated with shopping specials, music and more put on by the Main Street Program.
“Last year was the first year downtown joined the national campaign for Shop Small Saturday and we are excited to see the initiative grow to include small businesses all around San Marcos,” said Main Street Program Manager Samantha Armbruster. “This is a great way for shoppers to support our small business owners and get those unique gifts that you can only find in San Marcos.”
In 2014 Small Business Saturday helped business owners thrive, with shoppers spending more than $14.3 billion nationally across the country.
