AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 22-year-old man is dead after crashing his car into a tree Friday evening in Central Austin.

Austin-Travis County EMS says it happened just after 5:20 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Lamar Boulevard near Airport Boulevard.

Austin police say Connor Bovee was speeding when he hit the train tracks.

Witnesses tell officers the man’s car then went airborne, swerved to avoid another car and then hit a tree. He died at the scene.

The northbound lanes of North Lamar were shutdown for more than two hours as crews investigated the crash.
