FRESNO, California (NBC News) – After nine days stranded atop a power pole, help finally arrived to rescue a cat.

Fat Boy’s owners said he made his way up the pole after being chased by a neighbor’s dog.

For days, he tried to come down, but could only make it a few inches before getting scared. His owners say they were calling his name but he would just look at them and meow.

Lineman from Pacific Gas and Electric carefully retrieved the black and white feline from the pole.

That, after the cat’s owner said the fire department and other agencies had declined to help.

Fat Boy endured wind, and rain, as he sat at least 45-feet high in the sky for days on end.

Onlookers clapped and cheered as the brave cat was lowered to the ground in a crate.

Power was shut off for a few hours to 250 homes in the area to complete the rescue mission.

But, needless to say, it was worth the effort.

Fat Boy appeared to be in good shape after surviving the ordeal.. And of course, started eating immediately.

From the looks of things, Fat Boy is certainly enjoying all the attention! provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
