AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are investigating a crash that left one man dead on Interstate 35, near Slaughter Lane, causing a major traffic back up Wednesday morning stretching all the way to Buda, Texas.

All of the northbound lanes of S I-35 have been reopened after the road was closed for fours hours. Traffic was an issue for commuting drivers for two hours after the road opened, but has now cleared up.

Police were called around 3:30 a.m. after the pedestrian was hit trying to cross the interstate. On Nov. 28, police said the vehicle left the scene and failed to stop and render aid.

At this time investigators do not know if weather played a factor in the crash. The Medical Examiner just arrived and is now assisting police. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
