Lighting ceremonies to get you in the Christmas spirit

AUSTIN (KXAN) – It’s beginning to look a lot like…the weekend when several cities are doing their holiday lighting ceremonies.

  • On Friday, celebrate the season with the annual lighting of the Square at the Williamson County Courthouse. The festivities include carolers and refreshments from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m at 710 S. Main Street in Georgetown.
  • Also on Friday, Fredericksburg is lighting the German Christmas Pyramid and the community tree starting at 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West Main Street. Free cookies, hot chocolate and bottle water will be available. Following the lighting ceremony, “The Low Brass Project” will continue to play more holiday favorites.
  • On Saturday, Hays County is getting into the spirit with the lighting of the courthouse in San Marcos at 712 South Stagecoach Trail. It will take place at 5:30 p.m. and will include music and presentations.
  • On Sunday, it’s the 50th lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree. The lights go on at 6 p.m. smack dab in the middle of Zilker Park. ‘You can’t miss it,’ they say.

Can’t make it to any of those?

Starting Friday night, the Domain has brilliant light shows with 200,000 lights and strobes dance in snychronization to holiday music! It happens at Domain II (between Dick’s Sporting Goods & Dillard’s) at 6 p.m, 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. every Friday through Sunday until January 1st. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
