6 dead, at least 23 injured in Tennessee school bus crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Hamilton County District Attorney’s office confirms at least six children are dead after a school bus crash in Chattanooga Monday afternoon.

It happened on Talley Road at 3:30 p.m. Police stated that the bus driver is being questioned and cooperating with investigators.

Both police and fire officials say 23 people were injured.

Col. Tracy Trott with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said on Twitter his “heart goes out to the families of the children that were killed & injured in the school bus crash in Chattanooga this evening.”

The bus lying on its side inside a house. A neighbor saw children having to escape from the roof hatch.

Neighbors said the woman who lives in the house appears to be okay and was outside the home talking with emergency responders.

According WTVC, a representative with Woodmore Elementary has confirmed that bus No. 366 was carrying students from the school and was involved in the crash. Roughly 35 students were on board at the time, ranging from kindergarten age to fifth grade.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.
