Pedestrian hit, killed by two cars on I-35 identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The man killed while trying to cross Interstate 35 early Wednesday morning has been identified.

James Arthur Gantt, 61, was hit by two cars near 51st Street, just south of U.S. 290. All of the southbound lanes of I-35 were closed for several hours following the incident. Police were called to the scene of the crash at 5:55 a.m.

Gantt was pronounced dead by Austin-Travis County EMS. Both of the drivers stayed at the scene of the crash.
