BUDA, Texas (KXAN) — Hays County officials celebrated the completion of a major road project Wednesday morning and started the next one just moments later. A portion of North FM 1626 has been improved from a two lane to a five lane road with shoulders and turn lanes.
The funds for the project come from TxDOT and the voter-approved road bond from 2008. “This project has been on the books for 10 years and it’s been held up for those 10 years. So, they are more than ready to have it done, it’s overdue,” said Hays County Commissioner Mark Jones.
Jones says the improvements will help with safety and allow the area to continue growing.
“Hays County, between now and 2050, is projected to be the fasted growing county in the state of Texas and Buda and Kyle is the fastest growing area in Hays County, it’s just our population growth that has made this necessary and much needed,” said Jones.
A groundbreaking was held as well Wednesday morning for the last portion of FM 1626. The road between RM 967 and FM 2770 will also go from two lanes to five.
