AUSTIN (KXAN) — A motorcyclist killed in a crash on a South Interstate 35 service road Friday evening has been identified.

Michael Wayne Smith, 39, was riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound in the 13700 block of South I-35 when he rode off the interstate and into the grass. Smith reentered the road and went down, separating from the motorcycle and crashing at around 8:21 p.m., according to Austin police.

Because Smith was an organ donor, he was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. Police say the rider was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m. The incident is still being investigated by APD. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-5789.

This was Austin’s 63rd traffic fatality of 2016. At this time in 2015, there were 86 traffic fatalities in Austin.

Monday morning, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a semi truck on Heatherwilde Boulevard in Pflugerville. Police say foggy weather may have been a factor.
