Police: Leader of criminal group arrested after trying to run over officers

AUSTIN, (KXAN)– The Austin Police Department arrested the leader of a criminal group responsible for stealing cars, dealing drugs and killing people, after they got a tip he was driving a black truck with a tool box in the back.

Police found the truck at a gas station along US 290. According to the arrest affidavit, Francisco Villagomez, 36-year-old male, rammed both the police car behind him, the one in front of him and almost hit the officers on foot approaching his vehicle.

Police were able to get Villagomez out of the vehicle by using a stun gun three times. The first deployed and missed.

APD searched the truck and found a revolver, pistol, rifle and an A-R 15. Villagomez is a convicted felon for crimes he committed in 2014, so being in possession of fire arms is illegal.

Villagomez is now facing a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer, if convicted he could face up to 99 years in prison.
