AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Trail of lights is just for weeks away from opening and crews are already prepping parts of Zilker Park for the annual event.

Crews have started wrapping trees at the park a few weeks ago but organizers say they expect to have most of their displays up by Thanksgiving.

Although the setting up is underway, parts of Zilker Park will stay open to the public.

“The trail’s goal always is to keep the park and Zilker as beautiful as possible and we always also want to leave it open to the city as much as we can. So for the entire duration of the event, at least a third of the park will be open,” President of the Trail of Lights Foundation Leah Davis said.

The grand opening for the Trail of lights is Dec. 10 but you purchase tickets in advance now for any of the days it’s open.
