Body found by AISD bus driver in east Austin identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police says they are investigating a homicide after a body was found in east Austin by an AISD bus driver Wednesday morning.

According to Austin police, the body was discovered on the 1400 block of Meander Dr., near Fort Branch around 7:30 a.m.

The victim was identified as Tyler Benjamin Athey, 24. At the time he was found, authorities said he had ‘obvious trauma’ to his body.

“They are trying to figure out everything that occurred during the incident and that’s why it’s so important to get this information to the community,” said Officer Destiny Winston. “If you know anything you’re asked to call the detectives.”

There were children on the bus at the time, but police have not said if they saw the body.
