AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pedestrian hit and killed by a car in North Austin Tuesday night has been identified as 53-year-old Luis Gabriel Chavez.

Austin-Travis County EMS say the man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with critical injuries and CPR in progress, but later died at the hospital. The crash happened at Payton Gin Road and North Lamar Boulevard at 6:56 p.m.

Police say a Hyundai was traveling southbound on North Lamar less than 45 miles per hour due to the wet roads. As Chavez was attempting to cross the street, he was hit by the vehicle.

The driver has been cited for not having a driver’s license or insurance.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-6935.
