AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating after a body was found in Northeast Austin on Sunday.

Police responded to a welfare call at 8:53 p.m. on the 7400 block of Geneva Drive, near US 290 and 183. According to Senior Police Officer Marcus Davis, several people called APD about a person down. The person was described as a black male, approximately 20-years-old.

When officers arrived on scene, they began performing CPR, but were unable to revive him. Based on injuries found on the body, Davis said the homicide unit was caused to investigate. He did not specify what those injuries were. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The man has not been identified, and police don’t know whether he lived close by or was from the area. Anyone who saw or heard something they think may be related to the man’s death is asked to call APD.

This is the 30th homicide in Austin this year. According to the police chief’s monthly reports, through November last year there were 27 homicides and 26 in 2014.
