SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — The city of San Marcos held their annual Veterans Day parade downtown Saturday morning.

Veteran groups, military organizations, civic clubs and other local groups in the San Marcos area participated in the parade.

U.S. Army Veteran Tom Tvrdik was the grand marshal for the themed parade titled “Honoring All Who Served.”

Tvrdik served in the Vietnam War as a military police officer, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Locally, Tvrdik served as the Commander of the San Marcos American Legion Post 144. He also worked several years as the Hays County Veteran Service Officer where he helped veterans with transporting veterans in need to the VA hospital, as well as working with other veterans on their VA claims.

The parade began on Hopkins Street at the intersection of CM Allen and traveled down Guadalupe Street and San Antonio Street.
