AUSTIN (KXAN) — A traffic shift Friday night at 10 p.m. will close southbound MoPac Expressway exits to Cesar Chavez Street, Fifth Street and Lake Austin Boulevard.

The shift will also close the right southbound lane of MoPac from Westover Road to Lady Bird Lake, weather permitting. Early Sunday, the lane closure will switch to the left lane and, for a brief period, the southbound lanes will completely close around Enfield Road.

All lanes should be reopened no later than 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.

The changes will result in a new alignment for southbound Mopac between Enfield Road and Lady Bird Lake. The Cesar Chavez and Fifth Street exit will move further south. The traffic shift will allow workers to complete construction of the new southbound MoPac Express Lane in the center of MoPac and finish work on an Express Lane exit ramp to Cesar Chavez and 5th Street.
