FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — K9 Lobos and partner Sgt. Randy Thumann, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, seized 10 bundles of U.S. currency during a traffic stop.

At around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Thumann pulled over a car on Interstate 10 in Fayette County at mile marker 661 for a traffic violation. The sergeant noticed several inconsistencies in the driver’s travel itinerary.

After being given consent to search the vehicle, Sgt. Thumann found an elaborately built compartment inside the dashboard and behind the airbag. The officer found the release to the compartment door inside the back of the cigarette lighter plug in the center console.

The $50,000 seized was wrapped in electrical tape. The driver of the vehicle and her infant child, from El Paso, were released pending charges for felony money laundering.
