AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man died after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on Manchaca Road near Slaughter Lane Wednesday. Five others were injured.
Austin police say two men in a silver Mazda Protege were traveling southbound on Manchaca Road when the driver in the Mazda drifted into the northbound traffic and hit a red Kia Sportage just after noon. Austin-Travis County EMS said a man in the Mazda, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 22-year-old Tyler Michael Robinson, of Bastrop County, died at the scene. The other man in the car was taken to the hospital. A woman in the Kia was taken to the hospital along with a family of three in a Hyundai Sonata that ran into the initial collision.
Toxicology is pending to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash, police say. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-5789.
Just north of this area is one of the most dangerous intersections in the city of Austin. At the intersection of Manchaca Road and Slaugher Lane, yellow posts were added near the H-E-B last year to prevent drivers from cutting across four lanes of traffic, which has posed a serious safety issue in the past. The posts force drivers to safely find a point to turn around.
