AUSTIN (AP/KXAN) — Travis County Precinct 3 Commissioner Gerald Daugherty is getting some national attention for his online campaign video featuring his wife.

In the video, Gerald’s wife, Charlyn, pleads for voters to re-elect her husband so he’ll get out of the house and relieve her of his nonstop prattling about county issues. The tongue-in-cheek ad posted to YouTube earlier this month shows Mrs. Daugherty rolling her eyes at the camera as her husband talks about tax rates, light rail and other issues while doing household chores. She goes on to say her Republican husband doesn’t have any hobbies and just wants to “fix things.”

According to Daugherty’s Facebook page, the video has been viewed nearly 2 million times. Star Trek superstar George Takei even reshared the video last week. The Washington Post wrote Daugherty’s ad was something “we all needed.”

David Holmes, D-Austin, is running against Daugherty in the general election.

Gerald was elected to the Travis County Commissioners Court in November of 2002 where he served as commissioner of Precinct 3 until 2008. He decided to seek the seat again in 2012.
