ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN)- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in an effort to highlight the disease Baylor Scott and White Medical Center is hosting an educational seminar this week.

Hannah Bennett, a physical therapist with Baylor Scott and White, spoke with KXAN’s Gigi Barnett about the events happening next week and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Bennett said comprehensive Breast Cancer treatment should include exercise. A low-level walking program can be started at any point during your treatment process, she said.

“Even if you just had surgery, or if you’re going through radiation or going through chemo, it’s okay to start a low-level walking program. It may be a good idea to have someone monitor you, a medical professional but, it is okay,” Bennett said.

The Baylor Scott and White Cancer Center will open Summer 2017 which will include treatment and diagnostics for all types of cancer. The Medical Center will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday to discuss breast reconstruction.

The Round Rock Breast Reconstruction Seminar will be hosted from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center located at 300 University Blvd. The seminar is free and will include a light dinner. To register, please call 844-BSW-DOCS.
