AUSTIN (KXAN) — An interagency investigation led authorities to a home in Bastrop County where they found 719 cases of stolen beer, firearms and more than $100,000 in cash.
The Austin Police Department said they started investigating in September when Capital Distributing Company reported someone had broken into their business and stole $90,000 worth of alcoholic beverages. With the help of the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission and the United State Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, a search warrant was issued for a home in the 300 block of Old San Antonio Road in Dale, Texas.
When authorities searched the property on Wednesday, they found: money, 20 firearms, exactly 719 12-packs of Dos Equis beer and one large marijuana plant. Police say about 75 percent of the stolen beer was recovered. Out of the firearms, one was a prohibited weapon and two were reported stolen.
“There is a broader ring that’s still under investigation and you will see more charges coming out of this,” said Austin Police Sgt. Maurice Forshee. “The simplest explanation would be that it is fencing it, which is stealing it and then turning around and selling it.”
Police say the Bastrop County Animal Cruelty Unit was also called for a separate investigation.
Two brothers, Byron Arana, 32, and Wilmar Arana, 29, were arrested and charged with selling alcohol without a license, which is a misdemeanor.
