AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two Austin musicians are dead after a crash on a North Carolina highway.

It happened on Interstate 95 after a different crash shut down part of the highway. Video of the semi crash showed the fiery scene on I-95 in Johnston County, North Carolina.

The Highway Patrol had to re-route traffic because the burning truck was carrying hazardous chemicals.

The resulting traffic slowdown may have contributed to a deadly crash a few miles away, where a semi truck rear-ended an RV carrying the band Porter and the Bluebonnet Rattlesnakes.

The Austin band was driving from South Carolina to a show in Baltimore. The crash killed Christopher Porter and bandmate Mitchell Vandenburg.

Adam Nurre of Austin was also in the RV. He survived and is recovering in a North Carolina hospital.
