AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman in her early 20s was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 Wednesday morning. The southbound lanes of I-35 from Oltorf Street to Woodland Avenue have now reopened.

Around 2:23 a.m. Austin Police received several calls about a rollover crash. Multiple witnesses say they saw the car speeding before it crashed into a retaining wall.

Once police arrived they found the female driver had been ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police suspect alcohol and speed played a role in the crash, but they are waiting for the results of the toxicology report.

The woman was the only person in the car.

Police warn with Formula 1 coming up to avoid drinking and driving. “It creates disaster, it gets people hurt, and it’s not a safe thing to do,” said Sgt. Don Doyle.
