AUSTIN (KXAN) — Christmas is still two months away but the organizers behind Travis County’s Brown Santa are scrambling to secure a warehouse space to conduct its business this year.

The Brown Santa Program, now in its 34th year, is a community service of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office that provides assistance to underprivileged children and their families in the county. Every family who registers will receive a holiday meal and a toy box for the children.

In order to start this season’s collections, the non-profit is looking for a temporary, donated space that they can use as a place to accept donations.

The non-profit says the space needs to be at least 30,000 to 50,000 square feet with HVAC, restrooms, electricity and telephone lines. The organization will pay all of the utilities during the period of the operation. If you’re interested in donating space, please contact Mary Rodriguez at 512-698-2813.

Once donations start coming in, volunteers will be needed to sort through the toys and goods as well as prepping the gifts for delivery.

Families that qualify may apply at the area rural community center closest to their residence (listed below), the deadline is Dec. 1, 2016.
