AUSTIN (KXAN) — A football player at West Ridge Middle School was injured Tuesday and airlifted to the hospital.

Austin-Travis County EMS were called at 3:58 p.m. to the Eanes ISD school, located at 9201 Scenic Bluff Dr., just off of Bee Cave Road. The director of communications for Eanes, Claudia McWhorter, says the eighth grader was injured during practice. She could not say how the teen was injured, but confirmed he was conscious.

A STAR Flight medical helicopter took the teen to Dell Children’s Medical Center. EMS decided to airlift him out of an abundance of caution, and due to worries about traffic. The football player’s mom was with him during the airlift.
