AUSTIN — A man who drowned in Lake Travis over the weekend has been identified as 26-year-old Jose Antonio Almendarez Lopez, of Austin.

Travis County Sheriff’s Office says Lopez was swimming in the Paradise Cove Marina area Saturday around 5:30 p.m. when his family said he went under and didn’t resurface. Lake Travis Fire Rescue helped search for the body but had to end the search once it got dark.

Dspite efforts made by TCSO to keep the family from searching themselves due to safety reasons, the family found Lopez’ body late Saturday evening.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office says while Lopez drowned, his manner of death is being classified as a suicide.
