AUSTIN (KXAN) — Starting on Monday, Camp Mabry will be opening a temporary gate to reduce traffic on 35th Street during construction.
To get on and off the base, use the gate at 45th Street and MoPac. The gate will be open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, during the 35th Street Underground Electrical Service Project.
“We have temporarily opened additional entry points to Camp Mabry as a way to expedite traffic onto post during peak hours, as well as lessen the amount of vehicles on a main corridor while construction crews are present,” said Maj. Paul Mancuso, Camp Mabry Garrison Commander. “This will help ensure the safety of everyone in the area.”
The Underground Electrical Service Project will help deliver drinking water to the city of Austin customers. Crews aim to bring a more efficient power supply to the Davis Water Treatment Plant.
The gate will remain open until the project is finished, which should be sometime next year. Weekend drivers can enter the base from the 35th Street entrance. However, you should plan a little extra time to travel the road due to the lane reductions between Hillview Road and Foothill Drive.
