Family finds body of missing swimmer in Lake Travis

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and other entities responded to a missing swimmer that reportedly went under water and did not resurface.

The incident occurred at Paradise Cove Marina at Lake Travis. By the time Travis County Sheriff’s Department arrived to the scene, the swimmer had not been seen for 20 minutes, said Kristen Dark, TCSO spokesperson.

Lake Travis Fire Rescue deployed four swimmers and boat 601. STAR Flight also landed in the area.The 22-year-old, Hispanic male was swimming in the cove with his family when he went under and he was not wearing a life jacket.Their attempt to retrieve him was unsuccessful.

Despite efforts made by TCSO to keep the family from searching themselves for safety reasons, the family found the missing swimmer’s body and brought it to shore.

The body was found in an area that is approximately 10 feet deep with lots of brush surrounding the area, Dark said.

The investigation into the death will begin after the medical examiner arrives to the scene.
