ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Round Rock City Manager Laurie Hadley has selected Robert Isbell, currently fire chief in Midland, Texas, to be Round Rock’s next chief.
The city says they conducted a nationwide search to find a replacement for David Coatney, who accepted the chief’s job in Dallas in June.
Isbell has been Chief in Midland since December 2010. He’s also served as fire chief in Euless, Texas, and Southlake, Texas. His firefighting career started in Mansfield, Texas, in 1985, where he rose to the rank of Captain.
“We’re thrilled to bring Chief Isbell to Round Rock,” Hadley said. “His experience and skills are a perfect fit for the Fire Department and City executive team. We’ll open two new fire stations in December and will break ground on our first Public Safety Training Facility in November, and I fully expect Chief Isbell to be able to hit the ground running.”
Round Rock currently has eight fire stations and 140 employees. “My family and I are very excited to be coming to such a great community,” Isbell said. “The Round Rock Fire Department is a strong, community-oriented team and I am humbled to lead such a great group of professionals.”
The City Council is required by Civil Service rules to confirm Hadley’s appointment, the city said in a statement. That is expected to take place at its regular meeting on Oct. 27. Isbell is expected to start work as chief on Dec. 12.
