AUSTIN (KXAN) — We’re getting a new look at the 16-acre major project near 45th Street and MoPac Expressway, The Grove at Shoal Creek.
Plans include future restaurants, playgrounds, recreational spaces and a trail system. The park’s proposal is being called “superior” by the Austin Parks and Recreation department.
The major mixed-use project also has plans for affordable housing.
“Most of the affordable housing is congregated on the east side of town and the Grove at Shoal Creek project will change that paradigm and move some affordable housing into western Austin, which is innovative,” said Garrett Martin, Manager of ARG Bull Creek LTD.
Final plans for the project still need to be approved by the City Council before construction can begin. $9 million will be used for traffic improvements in the area.
The project has proven controversial at City Council. Debate has focused on how much affordable housing the project should contribute to Central Austin.
