AUSTIN (KXAN) — An electrical fire at an Austin Energy substation near the intersection of RR 620 and RM 2222 caused thousands to lose power Wednesday night.

Around 3,300 customers were without power initially. Electricity was restored to the River Place area at around 9 p.m. The Austin Fire Department was called to the substation at 7013 River Place Blvd. at around 7:30 p.m.

Austin Energy says the outage was the result of a failed conductor at the substation. The AFD says one transformer was still burning, but it’s expected to burn itself out.
